Howe Military School, founded in 1884, is a coeducational boarding school for grades 5 – 12, located in Howe, IN. The school was established with funds from the estate of John Badlam Howe. Mr. Howe was a noted educator in his day. The military program was instituted in 1895 and, since 1920 the school has had a Junior ROTC unit sponsored by the Department of the Army. It is the only JROTC military institute in Indiana, Michigan or Ohio. The purpose of the military system is to emphasize leadership, self-discipline and organization. The school’s three-pronged approach to education emphasizes intellectual, physical and spiritual growth. Ninety-seven percent of Howe graduates consistently attend college.

Lakeland School Corporation is the home school district for Fawn River. It features three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Lakeland High School has a challenging curriculum and has been designated by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce as a "Best Buy Honor Roll High School". Honor Roll schools have achieved academically in spite of higher percentages of students at risk. Lakeland features a K-12 focus on literacy, science, math, engineering, and technology. In the fall of 2010, they will open their doors as a "New Tech" high school, as they have been awarded grant money to bring one-to-one computing and 21st century skills training to the students. Lakeland has a challenging K-12 career pathways curriculum, which focuses on each individual student's growth. The high school features Project Lead the Way classes in Engineering, many 21st century vocational course offerings, five dual enrollment classes, and a full complement of Honor's/AP classes. Students also have access to distance learning both onsite and through area cooperatives featuring advanced studies and college credit from four surrounding postsecondary institutions.

The school district is located on the west side of rural LaGrange County, 50 minutes north of Ft. Wayne and 20 minutes east of Goshen. The dynamic small communities of Topeka and Shipshewana are located within the district. Westview School Corporation enjoys a unique relationship with the Amish. Approximately 40% of the student population in grades kindergarten through eighth grade come from Amish homes. The local community values education and is very proud and supportive of the school district.
Westview School Corporation has earned numerous accolades for academic success from state and national sources. Students consistently rank high across the state and nation on state and national academic measures. Three different Westview schools have received the coveted Four Star Award, the highest award given by the Indiana Department of Education. This award is earned by being in the top 25% on achievement and attendance measures. Westview High School was recently recognized by the US News and World Report as a bronze school one of only three schools in North East Indiana to be recognized. Doing the work necessary to perform at high levels academically is of primary importance for everyone at Westview School Corporation.
Westview School Corporation also has success in extracurricular activities. The school boasts of two state championships in boys basketball and a state runner up in girls basketball. The school is a regional leader in many other sports and the community provides numerous leagues for students to participate while in the in elementary grades. The school supports the arts and opportunities to participate in high quality dramas and concerts in the Dr. Richard L. Wilson Auditorium are afforded to interested students.
Westview has three elementary schools serving grades kindergarten through fourth grade and one elementary school for students in grades five and six. All students in grades seven through twelve are housed in one building with the seventh and eighth grade students occupying the top floor of the school yet sharing the media center, cafeteria, and athletic facilities with the ninth through twelfth grade students.
