1st Annual Launch LaGrange County Final Competition

April 26, 2016

On April 26, 2016, at the Shipshewana Event Center in Shipshewana, Indiana, the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation held their first annual Launch LaGrange County event. Finalists from Lakeland High School, Westview High School, Prairie Heights High School, and Howe Military Academy all came together to present their business pitches and compete for grants, scholarships, and other prizes.

First place went to Cole Miller of Lakeland High School with their pitch of Millermatic Irrigation System, a single-pivot irrigation system. He received a $5,000 start-up grant, scholarship offers from four area colleges, a general scholarship, free office space, and a membership to the LaGrange County Chamber of Commerce.

Second place went to Haywire, founded by AJ Dorough of Lakeland High School. His business is an application that teaches users how to code and create apps based on the Indiana Department of Education Standards.

Third place went to Lakeland High School students Kameron Combs, Manuel Rangel, Nolan Isaacs, and Kyle Coalson. Their business, Bus Buddy, is a phone app with GPS technology for school buses, allowing students and parents to track the location and arrival time of the bus each day.

All the winners received different grants and scholarships. The other finalists and competitors received scholarships from different universities and college as well. The night was a success and the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation is very much looking forward to next year.
