2015 Wage and Benefit Survey

News Release Area Economic Development Agencies to Conduct the 2015 Wage & Benefits Survey
March 5, 2015
Four area economic development organizations will conduct a wage and benefit survey of industrial employers beginning on March 16, 2015. This is an update to the 2014 four county survey conducted by the DeKalb County Economic Development Partnership, the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation, the Noble County Economic Development Corporation, and the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation.
A partnership of the four organizations provides many advantages. The four counties have strong social ties and they face many of the same challenges and opportunities, according to Ken McCrory of the DeKalb Economic Development Partnership. “We are rural oriented counties with small cities and towns that have similar economies. In addition, the work commute patterns show that our respective industries share the area’s workforce, so it makes sense to unite in this effort.”
The survey will be conducted entirely online and companies will be assigned a unique code to access the survey. Each local economic development organization will be reaching out to companies in their county to explain more about the survey and encourage participation as well as answer any questions. The survey website at www.wagesbenefitssurvey.com will be open from March 16th through May 1st. Dave Koenig of the Steuben County EDC and Lora Tormanen of the LaGrange EDC added that interested employers should contact their local economic development office. The goal is to make the results available to participants by the end of May.
Rick Sherck of the Noble County EDC believes that the wage and benefit survey is a win-win for everyone. “Last year we had 72 companies participate in the survey. The survey is of value to industries that participate as well as each of the EDCs. Participants in the survey are kept confidential and the data will be collated to show trends in employment wages and benefits offered for a wide variety of positions. The four counties will use a third party consultant to compile the data; this provides an extra layer of confidentiality.”
The cost of developing and printing the survey is being partially underwritten by Indiana Michigan Power, Wabash Valley Power, NIPSCO, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, and the Northeast Indiana Workforce Investment Board.
