Aurora Starts New LaGwana Building in Shipshewana

A building to house all LaGwana operations has been started. Immediately following a Thursday morning, September 15, ground-breaking ceremony, the big equipment tore in for a real ground breaking. With a six-month build time projected, the plans are to have all LaGwana employees and services under one roof by mid-March 2017. The project is being financed primarily by Interra Credit Union with support from the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation.

The new building, located on the southeast corner of County Roads 850W and 250N (Middlebury St.) just on the west edge of Shipshewana, will be a 26,500 square foot combination of office space and light production areas. The production area will be home to the printing and sign-making operations. The office area will be a two-story structure running parallel with 250N.

Currently LaGwana has the main Corporate offices and all publishing operations at 4425W US Hwy 20, LaGrange; printing services at 8100W US 20, Shipshewana, and Legendary Designs signage services at 2685N 850W, Shipshewana. LaGwana publishes The People’s Exchange (Indiana/Michigan edition, Geauga County Ohio edition, and Arthur Illinois edition) every two weeks and The Hometown Treasure (a magazine serving the Westview School Corporation area) monthly, as well as several annual directories. Along with the publishing, printing and sign making services, LaGwana also offers graphic design, full marketing plans, web design and hosting, video production, video and audio streaming, mailing services, custom computer programming, and a brochure distribution service.

The company was originally started by Dawn and Dan Byler in 1996 as Aurora Services, a desktop publishing company they operated out of their home. The company moved out of their home in 2004 and the first employee was hired. Today Aurora is a real estate holding company owned by Dan and Dawn Byler that will be putting up the building to lease to LaGwana. Out of LaGwana’s current twenty-six employees, fourteen are employee-owners and three more are in the process of becoming employee-owners.
