Four Area County Economic Development Organizations to Host 3rd Annual Economic Development Forum

08/10/2010

Shipshewana, IN (August 9, 2010) — A partnership of four area county economic development organizations announced today they will be presenting their third annual "Economic Development Forum" on September 16, 2010 from 9am – 2pm at the Shipshewana Town Center in Shipshewana, IN. This year’s forum, "Community/Industrial Relationships" is a continuation of the successful "Grow Your Knowledge, Grow Your Community" series sponsored by the four organizations and previously held in Kendallville.

"The previous events were so well received that the four county partners decided to expand the series this year" said Mark Becker, Executive Director of the Northeast Indiana Fund, a sponsor of this year’s event. "The four partner counties have worked with our other northeast Indiana economic development organizations to help host a similar event in Huntington later the same day so that if some of our local officials are unable to attend in Shipshewana, they can still hear a similar program featuring our keynote speaker David Dodd later in Huntington." The event, which will take place on September 16, 2010 at the Shipshewana Town Center located at 760 S. Van Buren Street in Shipshewana, IN will be presented from 9:00am to 2:00pm, and is presented free of charge. Lunch will also be provided by Blue Gate Catering free of charge thanks to generous support from our sponsors Wabash Valley Power, NIPSCO, Indiana Michigan Power, Focus Hospitality, and the Northeast Indiana Fund. This event is hosted by the DeKalb County Economic Development Partnership, the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation, the Noble County Economic Development Corporation, and the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation.

This year’s event will feature three widely recognized leaders in the field of economic development. David Dodd of Dadco Consulting will be leading a discussion on business retention and expansion efforts in our communities; Meegan Lally Spicer of Duff and Phelps Corp. will discuss the role of communities in business incentive management, and Michael Hicks of Ball State University’s Center for Business and Economic Research will be discussing how a community gauges the value of business and economic development efforts at the local level.

The program will be again be moderated by Richard Heupel, Director of Ball State University’s Building Better Communities program.
