Gourmet Sea Salt Company Opening in LaGrange County

Shipshewana, IN. (December 17, 2009) — The LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation is excited to announce the opening of a new gourmet sea salt company in the Davis Mercantile located in Shipshewana. Under the name 's.a.l.t. sisters', the company retails and wholesales unrefined sea/mineral salts. They have also extended their selection to include gourmet herb blends called 'h.e.r.b.', a gourmet vanilla infusion kit called 'b.e.a.n.', and many other products including various accessories and gift ideas.
Owner Charmane Skillen started the company in 2007 after learning about the health benefits and improved taste of unrefined sea salt. The name 's.a.l.t.' - aside from describing the product, also originated from the names of Charmane's daughters - Sydney, Alexis, Lauren, and Taylor. Charmane began by selling her gourmet sea and mineral salts at local farmers markets, but as popularity grew for the products it became evident that they needed to be made available on a larger scale. Charmane partnered with her close friend Brenda Troyer in August 2009 to expand their market and they have been aggressively marketing and growing s.a.l.t. sisters ever since.
Their sea salts and vanilla infusion kit were recently featured on NBC's 'The Today Show' and have been endorsed by famous chef Giada De Laurentiis. s.a.l.t. sisters does not currently have a retail store outlet, but retails primarily through the internet at: www.saltsistersonline.com or by phone at 574.276.8871 (Charmane) or 574.320.8109 (Brenda). "We are excited to add s.a.l.t. sisters to our growing list of businesses and industry in LaGrange County" said Keith Gillenwater, Executive Director of the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation, "s.a.l.t. sisters is a valuable addition to our growing food processing cluster, and with the positive national press that they have deservedly received, s.a.l.t. sisters will only continue to grow."
