Tri-State Hardwood Co., Inc. Receives Tax Abatement for New Investment into LaGrange County facility

South Milford, IN. (July 18, 2011) — The LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation, in conjunction with Tri-State Hardwood Co., Inc. today announced the receipt of tax abatements for another expansion of their operations in South Milford, IN.

The planned expansion at the plant in South Milford will involve the construction and installation of a new computer controlled 50,000 board foot drying kiln, as well as a new outdoor air-drying building in which to air-dry lumber.  The total investment will cost approximately $315,000, and will result in two additional employees being added to the facility.  This announcement follows the October 2010 announcement of 100,000 additional board feet of kilns and new debarking equipment totaling approximately $500,000 and four new employees.  The new equipment will allow Tri-State Hardwood Co. Inc. to increase the capacity of lumber that is processed at the South Milford facility and will increase the efficiency of the operation.

The company requested tax abatements from LaGrange County for the investment, and was approved unanimously by both the LaGrange County Commissioners and LaGrange County Council.   This expansion follows many recent improvements and additions to the operation over the last three years, and will bring Tri-State Hardwood Co. Inc.’s total employment to at least 35 employees upon completion of the project.  “We are happy to support the expansion of Tri-State Hardwoods Co. Inc. at their South Milford plant,” said Charles Ashcraft, President of the LaGrange County Council.  “We value our local employers very highly and will always work to support their growth in any way possible.”

“We are very excited to announce the expansion of our operations in South Milford” said Denver Calhoun, President of Tri-State Hardwood Co., Inc.  “The addition of the new kiln and air drying building to our facility will allow us to process more high quality hardwood lumber.  We are eager to get this project underway and strengthen our continued partnership with LaGrange County, and are thankful for their continued support.”

"Tri-State Hardwood Co., Inc. has been a great partner in the South Milford community and we're excited that we continue to get opportunities to help them grow" said Keith Gillenwater, Executive Director of the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation. "The woodworking industry in LaGrange County is one of our targeted core industries, and companies such as Tri-State Hardwood Co., Inc. continue to exemplify the type of high quality wood products that are native to LaGrange County.”
