LaGrange County EDC Announces Housing Study

LaGrange, IN. (July 3, 2019) — The LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation

LAGRANGE – The LaGrange County Housing Task Force was established late in 2018 by the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation, Banker Greg Todd and local community leaders. The group has met over the last 9 months to discuss the Housing situation in LaGrange County.

A 2016 Housing Report from the LaGrange County EDC stated LaGrange County needs all types of housing including; apartments, worker housing, dream houses and retirement housing. Also, a recent study from the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership confirmed that LaGrange County is need of all types of housing. It has been 25 years since a building permit has been issued for an apartment complex in the county.

The Housing Task Force will sign a contract August 1st with HPG Network to perform an 18-month Housing study for LaGrange County. HPG will develop sites, propose infrastructure and financing options. The cost of the study is $70,000 which will be funded by LaGrange County, and the towns of Topeka, Shipshewana, LaGrange and Wolcottville with the remaining funding coming from the private sector.

Bill Bradley, LCEDC says “Since joining the LaGrange County EDC in June 2018, the main topic of discussion has been the need for Housing here in LaGrange County. This relationship with HPG Network will give our communities the needed expertise to follow up with further housing developments that something we feel has been lacking.”
