Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary and The Kingsbury Arts & Event Center

LaGrange County, Ind. — Two standout LaGrange County businesses—Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary and The Kingsbury Arts & Event Center—have been honored in the 2025 Entrepreneurship Indiana Magazine, each earning recognition in the Early Category for their remarkable achievements, community impact, and contributions to Indiana’s entrepreneurial landscape.

Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary and The Kingsbury Arts & Event Center

Founded in 2024 by Greg and Marion Wiggins, Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary began as a simple family project that grew into a thriving agritourism destination. Located in a restored late-1800s schoolhouse, the business now produces more than 50 different lavender-based products and hosts community classes and events that attract visitors from across the Midwest.

The Entrepreneurship Indiana feature highlights the business’s rapid growth, including its expansion to more than 7,400 lavender shrubs by 2025. Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary also received a $250,000 USDA producer grant, supporting new marketing initiatives, updated packaging, and expanded production staffing. The recognition further celebrates the strong local partnerships that supported their success, including the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Small Business Development Center, and the Shipshewana Visitor Center.

Also recognized in the Early Category is The Kingsbury Arts & Event Center, founded in 2025 by entrepreneur and hairstylist Andi Sherman. What began as an ambitious vision to invest in Howe’s cultural future has grown into one of the community’s most dynamic adaptive reuse projects.

Sherman purchased and revitalized an entire block of historic buildings dating back to 1864, transforming them into a vibrant hub featuring her beauty studio, a shared retail shop for local makers, and flexible rental spaces for events ranging from kids’ story time to car shows and open mic nights. The Kingsbury continues to expand, recently welcoming Ben’s Pretzels and preparing for future additions, including a coffee shop, ADA-compliant spaces, and a rooftop bar.

The magazine feature highlights Sherman’s resilience and resourcefulness—funding the project through personal savings, bank loans, family support, and short-term business partners—as well as the guidance she received from regional organizations such as the Community Foundation of LaGrange County, Howe Community Association, LaGrange Partners, and the Indiana Small Business Development Center.

LaGrange County celebrates both businesses for their innovation, vision, and commitment to strengthening the region’s economy and quality of life. Congratulations to Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary and The Kingsbury Arts & Event Center on their well-deserved recognition in the 2025 Entrepreneurship Indiana magazine.
